OUR STORY
I always called her mommy. I loved her with all my heart and her love for me was unconditional. When I think back to my school years, I remember her always being there. Being involved. Being present. Helping others. Being the one who raises her hand and says “I will”. She was organized, neat, and did an amazing job raising me and my 2 brothers. Making school concert costumes, hair and make-up on performance days, substitute teaching, taxi for sporting matches, school camp cooking for 50+ kids, organizing events and school dances – nothing was too much for her. I looked up to her when I became a mom, but never really realized what an awesome mom she was until it was too late. 21 March 2013 was the day my life changed. The day I realized that I will never again be able to talk to her, hold her, give her a call, or ask her advise…Oh wow how I need to ask her advise…all the time… She knew about Mikayla, she knew what her name would be, but none of us knew how alike they would be. One of their differences however, is organization… and that is why Mommy and Kay was born! They never got to meet, so in a way they are together now.
The mommy and kay team
My name is Riette. I married my best friend and love of my life, Frans, in 2007. We have 3 beautiful children together – Daniel (10), Mikayla (8), and Evan (4). I am fortunate to be able to be totally involved in my kids lives, including sport and extra mural activities. As all the moms will know, staying on top of things can get pretty chaotic and messy at times. My goal is to help other moms cope better and get their children to cope better as a result.
I developed this magnet system over almost 2 years through trial and error until I arrived at a final product that really works! It has made life so much easier for myself and especially my children. It teaches them responsibility, completing tasks, and organization. Mikayla really struggled completing tasks and knowing what to do next, getting completely overwhelmed in the process, leading to multiple meltdowns. And I was getting tired of repeating myself a hundred times. With this system, my kids can relate to their chosen character, get satisfaction from moving magnets from the “to-do” to the “done” section, and feel a sense of accomplishment. They always know what to do and I don’t even have to say a word!
I believe this product can solve another home’s challenges just like it solved ours! They don’t say “it takes a village” for nothing.
